You’re tuned to 102.8 FM, Double-U, G, S, T. (That’s right b*tches!!!  East of the Mississippi, but still in the middle! WGST rocks!!!!)

Ghost radio, live, all the time….well, not really all the time…just when I f*cking feel like it. ;-)

Today we’ve got some dedications. So let’s kick this off:

Dedication #1 goes from me to ########. She know who she is, and I heard this song at work the other day, and laughed…cause it’s true.  So, if she’s still reading this blog, you can still make me smile, like when you used to do that goofy-eye-cross, stick your tongue out thing.  The first song we’ve got comes from a band that she and I went to see in concert and had a pretty big dust-up….Ladies and gents I give you:

Puddle of Mudd’s She Hates Me

To our mutual friends, hope you laughed.  I am.  To ########, hope some day, you’ll be able to lift the block on my Facespace page and laugh with me over a Woodchuck….but if not….it’s definitely your loss.

Moving on in our countdown…..

The next song goes out to my little girl, who whispers stuff like what she was having for dinner, or what she did at school when her mom is listening like it’s some secret that she SHOULDN’T be saying to Daddy over the phone, to make her mom a LITTLE bit more paranoid…

About two and a half years ago, during the divorce, this princess was just 4 years old, and in this amazing sweet little voice, I heard her singing along with the radio to this song….I was in a pretty crappy place then, and this little voice cut through the fog and made me smile….and then rethink what the f*ck was on the radio while she was in the car!

I give you…. Revive’s Blink:

Now that I’m all misty…dammit…just thought I’d drop this gem:

I’m supposed to get to see the Little Demons of Chaos this Saturday for a few hours in the afternoon.  It will have been almost exactly 13 months since the last time that I’ve seen them.  With only a handful of phone calls over that time, I have no idea what will happen, but I can only say….I can’t wait….and am completely scared their mom will no show.  I’ll keep you posted.

Pushing ahead….

In honor of the Demon Watch, the next song is dedicated to my youngest boy….Yep, The Demon Sh*t from Hell.  This kid is so bad…he’s good.  He has women just GIVE him stuff….he’s THAT damn cute!!!  Blonde hair, the bluest eyes you’ll ever see…fair skinned with freckles….he just HAS it (and the little sh*t KNOWS it!!!)  I went through the drive-thru at the bank, and in the seat behind me….through the tinted glass, this lady at the window spots him….and hands me not one, not two, not three….four damn suckers!  He was the only one in the car with me.  She says, “He looks like he needs something…..OH! I hope that’s okay?”  I’m thinking, ‘Forget my daughter…in about 10 years I’m gonna need to lock THIS kid up!”  Well, the day he was born, every damn woman in the hospital (including the Doctor, Head Nurse and Nuns…and it wasn’t even a Catholic Hospital!!!), Oooohed and Aaaaaahed over his little ass…so this one’s for you Gizmo…

George Thorogood and the Destroyers, Bad to the Bone:

Don’t keep the panties, kid….they’ll keep throwing them at you. (I’ve seen the future…and it scares the hell out of your dad.)

Hope you all watched that last one.  Mullets, galore!  On the dudes, on the chicks.  Fabulous!!!!

Now we’ve made it to our commercial break…Today’s sponsor:

It’s a relatively new drug company.  Look for them to make some more appearances in future blogs…I think this world needs some of these meds from Ms. F.O.B. Pharmaceuticals:

“Work got you down? Wife nagging you til you think you may just have to make that decision between your shotgun for you or the

ballbat for her? Is the school calling to tell you what a worthless bastard your kid is? Fear not, my friends!!! Ms. F.O.B. has got you

covered with her new amazing product: Fukitol!  Take one pill, wash it down with whatever alcohol you can get your hands on,

and Fukitol does the rest!  IRS hassling you? Fukitol!  Wife or Husband been cheating? Fukitol!  Power Company threatening to turn

you off?  Fukitol!  Teenage daughter turned up pregnant……..Get your shotgun, shoot the slimy bastard…then, FUKITOL!!!!!”

We’re down to the last two songs on our countdown, and this next song goes to a new character in Ghost’s life.  Subzero and I affectionately nicknamed this girl NBG, for Nice Butt Girl.  And it is quite impressive.  But she earned her spot on the countdown, by belting out this next tune in a karaoke bar at Ghost’s Bday Fest last weekend.  This song is kind of naughty, but when an attractive woman is belting it out…it takes on a whole new level of filthiness.  Ladies and Gents, I give you…

Buckcherry’s Crazy B*tch:

(These pricks won’t let me embed the video, so you’ll have to click over.)

Give me a second….still remembering HER version.  Yep…that memory’s a keeper.

Oh, sh*t!  I never posted about Ghost Fest 2012.  Well, if you’re really good, I may let you.  Just so you know…Ghost doesn’t kiss and tell, so if you’re reading my blog to find out with whom I am hooking up….keep dreaming.

Back to the countdown,

Today’s number one goes out to well, my co-workers.  Not the ones I like.  The ones who seem to have eaten the lead paint, played under power lines, and were born to alcoholic heroin addicts.  I seriously don’t know how on Earth I am this smart, and you are THAT dumb, but it is amazing….and not in a good way.

Our number one song today…

Theory of a Deadman, Hate My Life:

And that does it today.  Hope you enjoyed our countdown.

Ghost will do this again when he f*cking feels like it…..feeling like it may just be a monthly event.

For those of you not keeping up, shame on you!

If you’re wanting to kick it with Ghost on St. Patty’s day, you better make your reservations now!

I promise a show.  Every year is always exciting.

Thanks for listening…errr…..reading, whatever. (Now get back to work, and get off Facespace slackers….I know you’re reading this at work….and I love you for it!!!!)

Ghost out….

Shout out to my very tan, older brother.

Given the upcoming political cycle here in America, I decided to post politically charged songs for the month of February.

Digging back through the beginnings of metal, you’ll find a lot of anti-government/anti-war sentiment. For a genre defined by anger and previously labeled as Devil Music, there are some quite interesting themes.  Sabbath surely kick started the movement that you see echoed in Disturbed, Metallica, Megadeth and System of a Down’s music. (Pay attention…could be a hint in there at upcoming songs. ;-)

People who use people are bad. Especially when they sacrifice life for profit and money.

Wow. A Heavy Metal song…with a valuable message?

Believe it. A very undervalued genre in my opinion.

Ghost out…

Lyrics:

Generals gathered in their masses
Just like witches at black masses
Evil minds that plot destruction
Sorcerers of death’s construction
In the fields the bodies burning
As the war machine keeps turning
Death and hatred to mankind
Poisoning their brainwashed minds
Oh lord yeah!

Politicians hide themselves away
They only started the war
Why should they go out to fight?
They leave that role to the poor
Time will tell on their power minds
Making war just for fun
Treating people just like pawns in chess
Wait ’til their judgement day comes
Yeah!

Now in darkness world stops turning
Ashes where the bodies burning
No more war pigs have the power
Hand of God has struck the hour
Day of judgement, God is calling
On their knees the war pig’s crawling
Begging mercy for their sins
Satan laughing spreads his wings
Oh lord yeah!

So, I know you’re sitting there thinking:

“Man, this guy is SO interesting! I wonder what kind of music this guy listens to?”

Fear not Ghost fans….starting back at the beginning, I’m going to break down the music that has soaked into my pores (and tortured my ear drums).

The early years…you basically listen to whatever your parents listen to. Back then, there were RECORDS or LPs. I missed out on the 8-track cassette craze.

My first record was:

Received it as a present from a close friend in about ’84. His dad was a huge fan and Deuce and Cold Gin got some serious spins on the old record player. You used to be able to see thick lines in the grooves of the record, and by dropping it on one line you could play one specific song. Sometimes you missed, sometimes you counted wrong and got the wrong song. If you grew up in this era, you KNOW the sound of a needle scratch as bad.

Here’s Cold Gin:

After this, I kind of went through a dark period. Forced to listen to my mom’s “country” phase in the car….I developed a STRONG hatred for ‘Twang’. My choice in the car was Christian or Country. Christian music back then was all praise/light/worship type stuff. Please shoot me. My dad used to listen to the classic rock station which was better. ELO, BTO, The Who….(Don’t get me started on my dad’s rants about “My Generation”….Just sing it right, dammit! Quit Stuttering!!!) and the nineteen damn minute long Door’s ‘Light My Fire’.

I was going to find my own music. So, I saved up my money and while my older cousins were listening to Zeppelin and Metallica (Banned in my house), I finally got my mom to cave and let my buy this cassette:

I actually felt ‘cool’. Damn, I had actual music….that I liked.  This cassette got eaten in a tape deck in a car several years later. Great album. These guys will pop up again.

These guys got a ton of play in the neighborhood as well:

Hard Rock had come under fire as “Devil Worship”. Al Gore’s old lady started leading the charge on mature lyrics as the Rap music scene was getting moving as well. Leading to this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Parental_Advisory

Interesting read. The intent was to stop the spread of “Gangsta Rap” and “Devil Metal”…all they did was make these albums a target. If it didn’t have that sticker….it wasn’t cool. Heaven help you if you got caught with the edited/”clean” version of the album by your friends.

The next stage in my music consumption transitioned quickly and probably is where my wide base of interest got it’s roots. I was in the middle of the “Do you stop buying albums and just buy cassette phase.”

Pour Some Sugar On Me

http://youtu.be/4W_nXURlYjc

Quickly led to this:

This album was one you played and listened to, start to finish. I got my first flipping walkman about the same time….This meant it would play both sides back to back, without having to stop and “flip” the cassette over.

I can remember riding to basketball games in jr high listening to Welcome to the Jungle and Paradise City.

************************************************************************

The early 90′s was a busy time for me.  I figured out that girls were cool. I had a major growth spurt and coordination development.  And these next guys got me grounded on a regular basis. It was like my mom had radar lock. People would record you a copy of their cassette on a blank one. It would be clear and you wouldn’t mark it, so that your parents had no idea what was on it.  But she would find this tape over and over, and I’d be grounded…every damn time.  It was a fight I eventually won.

Having a paper route, I had money.  I started making the jump to compact discs about this time too. Dropping about $400 on the first Sony Discman. That thing was a tank and used 4 AA batteries, but was damn near indestructible. It still works and is in my closet even now.

But the rap group that got me in so much trouble?

2 Live Crew…. As Nasty As They Wanna Be

Me So Horny

This one is unedited, so be careful.

I got into a lot of different music at this point.  My bipolar interests really started to come out.  I’d have BelBivDevoe’s Do Me playing one minute, and Metallica’s Master of Puppets the next. LL Cool J’s Mama Said Knock You Out, and then Pantera’s F*cking Hostile. High School was interesting to say the least.

LL Cool J, Mama Said Knock You Out — http://youtu.be/vimZj8HW0Kg

Pantera, I’m Broken — http://youtu.be/2-V8kYT1pvE

Throw in the rise of Seattle: Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Soundgarden were fighting for space in my ears as well. Alice In Chains was definitely my favorite of the bunch though.

Alice In Chains — Don’t Follow — http://youtu.be/nzn0h5r8gYU

W/ Phil Anselmo (Pantera) — Would? http://youtu.be/-IJi7aQaySU

Soundgarden, Outshined —- http://youtu.be/iHwA76bsxJE

Cypress Hill, Rage Against The Machine, Megadeth, Public Enemy and Anthrax jumped into the mix as well.

I worked as a lifeguard with T-Ra at the local Y, and had some pretty interesting music discussions with her. I had bought Led Zeppelin’s remastered box set, and where do you even start with them? (Always wished that I had asked her out…she was a really cool chick.)

One of my favorites:

After this, music pretty much sucked for awhile…

I really got into Nine Inch Nails and Stone Temple pilots in college. Picked up some Red Hot Chili Peppers, and the beginning of the Foo Fighters for me.

I started getting interested in the Rap/Metal hybrid that was going on.  You had bands like Korn and Limp Bizkit….and then there were the Nu Metal bands.  Out of all of this crap, for me…it boiled down to Korn…and Disturbed.

Korn is a band that plays around with different things and for me, their bass is the opposite of country twang.

Disturbed is what got me through my second divorce. This album in particular:

The track ‘Stricken’ really helped me deal with the failure that I felt over this divorce. I went from tucking my little kids into bed every night, to alone…in a LARGE quiet house.  I’d leave their toys scattered about when they left, to remind me that little people had been there.  My commute was about 20 mins, one way. So sometimes I’d play that track, skip to track 11, their cover of Land of Confusion, (that my now 9 year old used to headbang to in the back seat on our way to drop him off at school, Isn’t that what every first grader should get pumped up with before heading off to school?) and then repeat.

It was during this period that I also started finding these Christian Metal bands.

Groups like Red and Skillet. It’s not your typical “I love Jesus” songs. They’re more watered down and mainstream, but it was stuff I could listen to with my kids and not worry, without having to give up an edge…..or worry about an unnoticed f-bomb. ;-)

The Rap Music overlay… Anyone who is anyone, will tell you that Rap sucks today.  Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, Outkast, Snoop, Old Jay Z, Eminem, Biggie and Pac are pretty much it. I can listen to 50 cent. Very little of L’il Wayne.  I’m sorry. These other guys talked about coming from a place where things sucked. There was little hope. Partying. You watch Dre Day video and they’re partying in the neighborhood. Outkast is talking about barbecues. Snoop’s Gin and Juice is happening in his Momma’s house.

I can relate to that.  I’ve never been in a Bentley..prolly never will.  Never gonna order a bottle of Cristal. Probably never going to buy Louis or Gucci or rock a Rolex. So until we get some real “street artists” again. I’m probably not gonna be real interested.  But here are some of my favorite rap tunes:

Public Enemy, Can’t Truss It — http://youtu.be/am9BqZ6eA5c

LL Cool J, Hey Lover — http://youtu.be/Um99r6sgspY

Eminem, ‘Til I Collapse — http://youtu.be/ouqwtWrM2os

The Return of the C-Word…..

So, I ended up married to a former farm girl, and have dated a few “country” girls….so, I developed a tolerance for “New Country”.

Tim McGraw, Keith Urban, Toby Keith, even Kenny Chesney have all gotten space in my phone’s 40G library.

Keith Urban’s Days Go By is a favorite of mine.

Here are a couple of the Cowboy hat wearing songs that I…..gulp….listen to:

Kenny Chesney, Everybody Wants To Go To Heaven — http://youtu.be/u6MqUqtTlLI

Last  points:

Group to watch: Avenged Sevenfold

They just lost a key member of their group, but their guitars are haunting at times. Just an amazing and unique sound.

Plus, they got in on Call of Duty: Black Ops Zombie game….if you collect all three meteorites you get to hear them play “I’m Not Ready to Die”.

Avenged Sevenfold, Nightmare — http://youtu.be/94bGzWyHbu0

New… Korn, Narcissistic Cannibal — http://youtu.be/MZLPf-m5jPM

Honorable Rap Mention:

Flo Rida, Good Feeling —- http://youtu.be/3OnnDqH6Wj8

My favorite of all time:

Metallica: The Call of Ktulu (S&M version)

http://youtu.be/xisIVhc64Ng

I love old school composers and symphonic music. Put a Symphony behind Metal Legends, and one of their best instrumentals….just awesome.

Well, hope you enjoyed this detour from my usual. I left out quite a bit.  Lenny Kravitz… sorry buddy.  Maybe next time. Didn’t get much into STP or Velvet Revolver.  Foo Fighters.  Earth, Wind and Fire.  Adelita’s Way.  And Seether…..just too much to get in here.

Still, I think this is a pretty good representation of my musical tastes.

Ghost out…

Love this cover of the Genesis original. The video is pretty interesting as well.

My 9 year old calls this his song. Getting all of my Demons head banging in the back seat is rough. Mostly because the girl is so picky.  But this one gets them going.

Video link and lyrics below.

With the upcoming elections this year, have the courage to vote for a candidate because of WHAT he/she stands for. Don’t just vote against someone, or for the lesser of the two crappy options. Get involved in these primaries and voting now. Then you may have a better option come this fall.

Lyrics:

“Land Of Confusion”

[Originally by Genesis]

I must have dreamed a thousand dreams
Been haunted by a million screams
But I can hear the marching feet
They’re moving into the street

Now, did you read the news today?
They say the danger has gone away
But I can see the fire’s still alight
They’re burning into the night

There’s too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there’s not much love to go around
Can’t you see this is a land of confusion?

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we’re given
Use them and let’s start trying
To make it a place worth living in

Oh, superman, where are you now?
When everything’s gone wrong somehow?
The men of steel, these men of power
Are losing control by the hour

This is the time, this is the place
So we look for the future
But there’s not much love to go around
Tell me why this is a land of confusion

This is the world we live in
And these are the hands we’re given
Use them and let’s start trying
To make it a place worth living in

I remember long ago
When the sun was shining
And all the stars were bright all through the night
In the wake of this madness, as I held you tight
So long ago

I won’t be coming home tonight
My generation will put it right
We’re not just making promises
That we know we’ll never keep

There’s too many men, too many people
Making too many problems
And there’s not much love to go round
Can’t you see this is a land of confusion?

Now, this is the world we live in
And these are the hands we’re given
Use them and let’s start trying
To make it a place worth fighting for

This is the world we live in
And these are the names we’re given
Stand up and let’s start showing
Just where our lives are going to

This was one of the first songs that I designated to a relationship where I was stupid about a girl. It really spoke to 16-17 yr old me and what I thought you were supposed to feel like when you were with a girl.

Drinking her bathwater…definitely a bit extreme….(but if she was hot enough…you know that you’d do it too! ;-)

Not wanting to deal with losing her to death, and wanting to be able to go with if she died before you….probably pretty common.

The best part about this song…it was “our” song…for one particular girl….but she never could identify it. After we split up, I thought about it, and it really was more just about how I felt. So, I took it back.

I think it’s a pretty good little tune.

If you don’t like it….well, Dark Side….what have you got for them?

“Suck it, Hookers!”

Video link and lyrics below:

“Still Remains”

our bed we live, our bed we sleep
making love and I become you
flesh is warm with naked feet
stabbing thorns and you become me
oh, I’d beg for you. Oh, you know I’ll beg for you.

pick a song and sing a yellow nectarine
take a bath, I’ll drink the water that you leave
if you should die before me
ask if you can bring a friend
pick a flower, hold your breath
and drift away…

she holds my hand we share a laugh,
slipping orange blossom breezes
love is still and sweat remains
a cherished gift unselfish feeling…
oh, I’d beg for you. Oh, you know I’ll beg for you.

pick a song and sing a yellow nectarine
take a bath, I’ll drink the water that you leave
if you should die before me
ask if you can bring a friend
pick a flower, hold your breath
and drift away…

she tells me things, I listen well
drink the wine and save the water
skin is smooth, I steal a glance
dragon flies “er” gliding over…
oh, I’ll beg for you. Oh, you know I’ll beg for you.

pick a song and sing a yellow nectarine
take a bath, I’ll drink the water that you leave
if you should die before me
ask if you can bring a friend
pick a flower, hold your breath
and drift away…

Piss on it. Until you guys start guessing in the comments, no more hints.  Jerks.

Anyway, we’re going lighter this week. A love song. Probably one you haven’t heard. Big album for this group, but this song never hit the radio stations, nor did it get a video on MTV….(back when they used to do that.)

One of my all-time favorites. Right up there with September, by Earth, Wind and Fire and Creeping Death by Metallica (Live, of course….there’s nothing quite like hearing 10K people chanting: DIE! DIE! DIE!)

Anyhoo, it’s Friday night….a couple of hours til work is over, then it’s time to get in trouble…. Mwuhuhahahahaha!!!! ;-)

See you around.

Ghost out…
